reporting A non-emergency

Calling "911" is specifically used for emergency sit​​uations where an immediate response is required from public safety personnel. For public safety assistance In Virginia Beach that is not an emergency or calls that originate from outside the calling area, dial (757) 385-5000.

I RECEIVED A BILL, AND I'M NOT SURE WHAT TO DO

Starting July 1, 2025 Virginia Beach EMS implemented a compassionate billing program that bills patients’ health insurance plans for ambulance transports and some advanced life support care that does not result in a transport. Virginia Beach EMS has partnered with third-party EMS billing company, Digitech Inc., who handle the entire billing process from claim submission to collections.

Ride-a-longs/observer shifts

We're always happy to have our community come spend the day with our providers in the field. Our ride-a-long program (called an "Observer Shift") is administered through the Virginia Beach Department of EMS. All information, including scheduling, can be found on their website here. 

Non-emergency Medical Transport

VBRescue and CBVRS are emergency medical services only, we do not provide non-emergent medical transport (ex: from home to a doctor's appointment, or transport from one hospital to another). Local licensed commercial ambulance companies are available in Virginia Beach for these services. A complete list of those companies can be found on VBEMS's website here.

administrative & medical records

Official records including medical records and emergency incident reports are maintained through the City of Virginia Beach Department of Emergency Medical Services. CBVRS does not maintain these records and cannot access them for you. Please visit VBEMS here to request copies of your medical records and other administrative paperwork. 

CAREER/PAID OPPORTUNITIES

CBVRS is 100% volunteer, we have no paid personnel in our organization.


Virginia Beach EMS does employ career operational and administrative staff to supplement and support the volunteers, including Advanced EMTs, EMT Intermediates and Paramedics. Career opportunities with VBEMS can be found here. 


The Virginia Beach Fire Department also hires career Firefighter/EMTs, Firefighter/Advanced EMTs and Firefighter/Paramedics as well as administrative staff. Career opportunities with VBFD can be found here.

VBRescue to start "compassionate billing"

Starting July 1, Virginia Beach EMS will implement a compassionate billing program that will bill patients’ health insurance plans for ambulance transports.

The program was approved as part of the City of Virginia Beach FY26 Budget, which established compassionate billing to support expanding emergency medical services and provide sustainable revenue for VBEMS and 10 volunteer rescue squads.
